Women’s Health and Nation Building

You do not need to be a Harvard or Yale economist to recognise a successful nation. Simply visit its villages and observe how its women live. Economists’ numbers may mislead you; those women will not.

Good soil helps a tree grow strong. In the same way, a healthy and empowered woman gives her child a stronger beginning.

A child’s future begins long before birth. A mother’s nutrition, physical health, mental wellbeing and access to healthcare during pregnancy influence her child’s growth and development. After birth, good nutrition, emotional security, education and healthy habits provide an important head start. Children who receive these early advantages are often better prepared to learn, grow and contribute to society.

Women’s health also strengthens the entire family. It influences:

  • Children’s health and education
  • Family productivity and income
  • Household nutrition and financial stability
  • The wellbeing of future generations

When women experience preventable illness, poor nutrition, untreated mental health problems or lack of opportunity, families, communities and the economy all carry the cost.

Investing in women’s health is not merely a medical responsibility. It is an investment in stronger children, more secure families, a productive workforce and a more prosperous nation.

To build a strong country, we must first help its women become healthy, educated and empowered.
